The first round of negotiations between the United States and Iran in Oman has ended, and the parties agreed to continue the dialogue in a week. This was announced on April 12 by the press service of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

"The first round of indirect US-Iranian negotiations on lifting sanctions and nuclear issues has ended," the agency's Telegram channel said.

They noted that during the talks, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the US President's special envoy for the Middle East, Stephen Witkoff, exchanged the positions of their governments in the presence of the Omani Foreign Minister. It is specified that the dialogue took place "in a constructive atmosphere and on the basis of mutual respect."

"The parties agreed that negotiations will continue next week," the Iranian Foreign Ministry added.

Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bakai said that the main goal of negotiations with the United States on Iran's part is to ensure the country's national interests. At the current round of negotiations, the parties will only exchange basic positions on the nuclear issue, he noted.
