The negotiations between the United States and Iran, which will take place on April 12 in Oman, will be direct, and their goal will be to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. This was announced on April 11 by White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt.

"Negotiations with the Iranians will be direct, I want it to be clear. Last night, I spoke with the President [of the United States Donald Trump] about his goals regarding Iran. He has told you and his White House team many times that his ultimate goal is to ensure that Iran does not have nuclear weapons," Leavitt said during a press briefing.

She added that the American leader believes in diplomatic ways to resolve this issue and positive results of future direct negotiations. According to her, Trump intends to consider any options proposed by Iran.

On the same day, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Esmail Bagai, said that the United States should appreciate Iran's agreement to negotiate, despite Washington's continued aggressive rhetoric against Tehran.

The NourNews news agency reported on April 8 that the main negotiators at the US-Iranian meeting in Oman, scheduled for Saturday, April 12, will be Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the US President's special envoy for the Middle East Stephen Witkoff. Oman's Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al-Busaidi will also attend the meeting.
