Tehran supports dialogue with the United States, but it will defend itself and respond with full force in the event of an attack. This was announced on April 11 by the Iranian Ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali.

"The leaders of our state and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Abbas Araghchi, have repeatedly said that we never start a war, we do not attack any country, but if they (the United States) are going to start a war against us, of course, we will defend ourselves and react with full force," he said on air. the TV channel "Russia 24".

The ambassador stressed that he did not have detailed information about the Iranian-American talks in Oman on April 12, but clarified that this was the first meeting of the parties. Jalali suggested that Tehran and Washington could first agree on the form of future negotiations, and then set specific tasks.

At the same time, according to Jalali, Tehran is conducting indirect negotiations with Washington, since the American side had not previously fulfilled its agreements.

This morning, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Esmail Bagai, said that the United States should appreciate Iran's agreement to negotiate, despite Washington's continued aggressive rhetoric against Tehran. He clarified that Iran will assess the intentions of the United States at consultations in Oman.

The NourNews news agency reported on April 8 that the main negotiators at the US-Iranian meeting in Oman, scheduled for Saturday, April 12, will be Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the US President's special envoy for the Middle East, Stephen Witkoff. Oman's Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al-Busaidi will also take part in the talks.
