China has filed a new lawsuit with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against the background of an additional increase in US duties on imported goods. This was announced on April 11 by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China.

"China has sued the United States to impose additional duties in accordance with the WTO dispute settlement mechanism," the ministry said in a statement, quoted by the Xinhua news agency.

The ministry called the US tariff measures "typical unilateral intimidation and coercion" that seriously violate WTO rules. It is noted that the continued increase in duties also undermines the multilateral trading system and the international economic and trade order.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, Beijing intends to resolutely defend its legitimate rights and interests, as well as provide unwavering support to the trading system and economic order.

The Chinese side also called on the United States to immediately lift all unilateral tariffs against China.

On April 10, CNBC reported that US President Donald Trump had increased tariffs on goods from China to 145%. In turn, US Vice President Jay D. Vance said that Trump wants peace, but also wants fair trade and "greater self-sufficiency for the American economy."

On April 9, the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, did not rule out the fragmentation of world trade against the background of mutual duties between the United States and China, which, in turn, could lead to a reduction in global real gross domestic product (GDP).
