- The media learned about the EU's fear of widening the gap in the wealth of countries due to US duties

The leadership of the European Union (EU) countries fears that the import duties imposed by the United States will widen the gap in the welfare of the member states. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on April 11, citing sources.
"Not all member states have the same fiscal capacity," one EU diplomat is quoted as saying in the publication.
Politico emphasizes that European officials have expressed concern that the wealth gap between the countries of the association could widen if the governments of richer countries rescue their companies affected by the trade war, while less prosperous countries will have few opportunities to do so.
The publication added that Spanish Finance Minister Carlos Cuerpo proposed using the proceeds from retaliatory European duties on American goods to offset the costs of enterprises throughout the association.
On April 10, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States is considering extending the 90-day pause that suspends the increase in import duties. According to him, the decision on extending or ending the pause will be made in three months.
A day earlier, EU countries approved retaliatory trade duties against the United States. The European Commission stressed that the US import tariffs are causing devastating economic damage to both sides, as well as the global economy. It is specified that the duties will begin to be collected from April 15.
