The United States may extend the 90-day pause that suspends the increase in import duties. This was announced on April 10 by the American leader Donald Trump during a conversation with reporters at the White House.

According to him, the decision on extending or ending the pause will be made in three months. He noted that it will depend on the situation in the world at the time of making the appropriate decision.

"If [within 90 days] If we can't get the deal we want, a mutually beneficial deal, then we'll go back to where we started from [increased tariffs]," Trump said.

In addition, the American leader added that at the moment the United States is not considering the possibility of canceling tariffs. He also clarified that the funds that the American side will receive from the duties will be used to pay the country's national debt, reduce taxes, form a balanced budget and protect state borders.

In addition, Trump criticized the attitude of other countries towards previous American administrations. In his opinion, the states of the European Union (EU) and China used the United States "in their interests."

"The European Union is very smart, but they really took advantage of the United States. <...> I don't blame them, I don't blame China, I don't blame anyone. I blame the people who were sitting at this table for allowing this to happen. I blame many presidents," the American leader said.

CNBC, citing the White House, reported on April 10 that Trump had increased duties on goods from China to 145%. U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance said Trump wants peace, but also wants fair trade and "greater self-sufficiency for the American economy."

On April 8, The New York Times reported that Trump postponed the imposition of duties on 75 countries for 90 days due to panic among Americans - the president described the situation on the markets after the introduction of tariffs as "pretty gloomy."
