The European Commission will postpone the introduction of tariffs on American goods for 90 days. This was announced on April 10 by the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen.

"We have taken note of the statement by the President [of the United States Donald] We want to give the negotiations a chance. <...> If the negotiations are not satisfactory, our countermeasures will take effect," she wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

At the same time, the head of the EC noted that preparatory work on the development of countermeasures in response to US duties will continue.

Earlier, on April 9, the EU approved retaliatory trade duties against the United States. The European Commission has concluded that the US tariffs are economically damaging to both sides. The tariffs were planned to start charging on April 15.

A day earlier, Trump announced that the imposed duties bring about $2 billion in profit to the US treasury. According to him, more than 70 countries have expressed a desire to negotiate with Washington on trade tariffs.
