A court in London found ex-governor Ovsyannikov guilty of circumventing sanctions.

The jury of the Royal Court in London found the former governor of Sevastopol Dmitry Ovsyannikov guilty of circumventing British sanctions. This was reported by Reuters on April 9.
It is noted that the jury found Ovsyannikov's guilt proven on six of the seven charges against him of circumventing sanctions between February 2023 and January 2024.
Bloomberg reported on March 18 that Ovsyannikov appeared in court in London. At that time, the prosecution claimed that the former official received a British passport in January 2023, providing false information to open a bank account to which his wife transferred £76,000 (about $98.6 thousand) shortly after his arrival in the UK.
The detention of the ex-governor of Sevastopol Ovsyannikov in London became known on January 31 last year.
According to The Times newspaper, Ovsyannikov received transfers totaling 65,000 pounds ($82,500) to an account he had previously opened at one of the banks of the HBOS financial group in London. In addition, about £77.5 thousand ($98.5 thousand) in cash was seized from him, which, as the investigation suggests, was also obtained as a result of illegal financial transactions.
