Yakovenko said about the possible loss of NATO economic sense for the United States

NATO may lose its economic meaning for the United States, as well as disintegrate under the "transactional diplomacy" of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, as part of Europe's decision to militarize its economy. This was announced on April 9 by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation Alexander Yakovenko.
In the publication, he touched upon the topic related to the decision of the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom regarding the build-up of military power, as well as the creation of an appropriate EU fund designed for the needs of militarization of the economy.
"The calculation is based on the fact that the restoration of the military-industrial complex will serve as a means of developing the high-tech sector. But high energy prices, tough credit conditions and trade restrictions on European exports may hinder this," Yakovenko wrote in an article for RIA Novosti.
According to him, as long as NATO exists, the European allies of the United States will need to purchase American weapons, "which is already embedded in the very structure of military procurement and planning of the alliance." According to Yakovenko, attempts to change something in this system may lead to the fact that NATO will lose economic meaning for the United States, and also contribute to the collapse of the alliance in the context of Trump's "transactional diplomacy."
Earlier, on March 19, NBC News reported that the administration of the head of the United States is exploring the possibility of relinquishing command of NATO forces in Europe.
NBC News said on March 6 that Trump was considering changing the format of the United States' participation in NATO. It is specified that this will mean a significant departure from the basic principle of the alliance. Later, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Washington would not withdraw from the military bloc.
