The regions of Russia with the largest number of cars are named

11 regions of the Russian Federation account for over 40% of all passenger cars in the country, and each of them has more than 1 million passenger cars. Most of the cars were registered in the capital region, the analytical agency "Autostat" reported on April 8.

Thus, almost 15% of the total Russian fleet is registered in Moscow and the Moscow region (8.7% and 6.2%, respectively). The Krasnodar Territory is the leader among non-metropolitan regions, where 4.4% of all passenger cars are concentrated.

St. Petersburg is next in the ranking (3.9%), followed by three subjects of the Russian Federation with the same share - the Sverdlovsk Region, the Rostov Region and Tatarstan (3% each). Bashkortostan is slightly behind them (2.9%). The next regions are Chelyabinsk (2.5%), Samara (2.4%) and Nizhny Novgorod (2.2%) regions.

The Central District leads in the rating by the number of passenger cars in the federal districts (28.8%). One fifth of all cars in Russia are registered in the Volga region (20%), and the ninth — in Siberia (11.3%). One in ten is registered in the Northwestern Federal District or the Southern Federal District (10.1% each). The Urals account for 8.9%, while the Far East accounts for 5.9%. The North Caucasus has the fewest passenger cars (5%).

Why has the purchasing activity of Russians decreased?

The day before, it was reported that the average price of a new car in the first quarter of 2025 was 2.96 million rubles. Compared to the same period last year, Moskvich (-14.7%) and Omoda (-4%) cars lost the most significantly in price among the brands. The average price of a used car in Russia was 845 thousand rubles. Hyundai (-8%) and Kia (-7.1%) became noticeably more affordable among the brands.
