- Bessent stated the desire of almost 70 countries to negotiate with the United States on duties.

Almost 70 countries have contacted the administration of the American leader Donald Trump with a request to hold negotiations on the issue of the duties imposed. This was announced on April 7 by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant.
"I can tell you that 50, 60, perhaps almost 70 countries have already contacted us," Bessent said in an interview with Fox News.
He added that the next few months will be tense due to the upcoming discussions. The Finance Minister said that at the moment, he and U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer are negotiating with representatives from Japan. According to him, the American leader will also participate in the dialogue.
On April 2, Trump announced large-scale measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the EU, this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again.
The next day, Georgy Ostapkovich, director of the HSE Center for Economic Research and Economic Analysis, noted that the introduction of US duties on imported goods could provoke a chain reaction that could lead to a global financial crisis.
