Lawyers of the arrested Istanbul Mayor Imamoglu have filed an appeal.

Lawyers for the arrested Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, who was temporarily suspended from office, have filed an appeal against his arrest. This was announced by Korkusuz on April 7.
"We ask that the arrest of Imamoglu be lifted, as the decision was made as a result of an investigation conducted using procedures prohibited by law, as evidenced by specific facts that tens of millions of our people know about and have responded to," the petition says.
As part of the appeal, the lawyers also asked for the suspended mayor of Istanbul to be released or for the case to be referred to the competent criminal court of first instance for appeal.
The situation in Turkey escalated on March 19 after law enforcement agencies issued a warrant for the detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. An anti-corruption operation has been launched against the Istanbul administration. The mayor of the city was arrested on March 23. After that, the country's Interior Ministry reported that Imamoglu had been temporarily suspended from his duties.
