The Acting President of Myanmar, Min Aung Hlaing, thanked the specialists of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for their help in dealing with the earthquake. This was reported on April 6 in the Telegram channel of the department.
In the afternoon, he arrived in Mandalay and visited a field camp of Russian rescuers. He was amazed by the work of the Ministry of Emergency Situations specialists, who dismantled the rubble around the clock in order to search for injured citizens and provided assistance to local residents. The acting president also talked with Russian doctors.
The specialists reported to Min Aung Hlaing on the progress of search and rescue operations, told about the organization of cooperation with colleagues and international rescue groups and humanitarian aid delivered by Russian planes in the afternoon.
It is noted that in the near future it is planned to send three more planes with humanitarian aid with a total weight of about 100 tons. Sergey Vorontsov, the head of the combined squad of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, in turn promised the acting President of the republic that Russian rescuers would continue to work in the emergency zone for as long as necessary.
Currently, specialists from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations have helped more than 200 citizens of Myanmar.
On April 5, Sergey Tsvetkov, a rescuer from the Centrospas detachment of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, who is involved in the aftermath of the earthquake, shared with Izvestia that the work on dismantling rubble poses a danger to the specialists themselves, including due to the collapse of buildings at the work site. He stressed that the progress of work to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake depends on the receiving Russian rescuers.
Two earthquakes in Myanmar of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 became known on March 28. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay. The natural disaster in the republic killed 3,455 people, and another 4,840 were injured. The next day, on March 29, over 100 Russian rescuers arrived in Myanmar to provide assistance. So, in Mandalay, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, together with colleagues from China, pulled a woman who had been lying there for more than two days out of the rubble.
