The United States authorities have cancelled previously issued visas to all South Sudanese passport holders, and will now prevent them from obtaining new ones. This was announced on April 5 by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the social network X (Ex. Twitter).

"I am taking measures to cancel all visas issued to South Sudanese passport holders and restrict their further issuance in order to prevent entry into the United States," he said.

According to the official, this decision comes into force immediately. The ban was imposed due to the fact that representatives of the Transitional Government of South Sudan refused to host the returned repatriated citizens.

On March 15, the NYT newspaper learned of the US intention to impose entry restrictions on citizens of 43 countries. According to the newspaper, the State Department has compiled a draft list of states divided into three categories.: "red", "orange" and "yellow". The "red" list includes 11 countries whose citizens will be "categorically prohibited from entering the United States." It includes Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen.
