- The brother of the Syrian president will become the head of the office of the Republican Palace

The younger brother of interim Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, Maher al-Sharaa, will lead the work of the office of the Republican Palace in Damascus, where the residence of the head of state is located. This was announced on Saturday, April 5, according to Al-Arabi, citing sources.
"On Saturday, Maher al-Sharaa was appointed to the post of General Secretariat of the President of the Syrian Republic," the publication says.
As the publication pointed out, the post of Secretary General of the presidential service is a significant post in the structure of the country's top officials. The representative of the position is authorized to manage the affairs of the President administratively and organizationally.
It is specified that Maher al-Sharaa served as Acting Minister of Health since December 16, 2024 under the transitional Government of Syria.
Earlier, on April 3, Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal al-Shaar said that Syria is aware of Russia's significant influence and weight in the Middle East. He expressed the hope that friendship between the two countries would strengthen both at the government level and among the peoples.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said last December that Russia was interested in dialogue with the new Syrian authorities. Moscow plans to discuss not only security issues, but also the regional agenda, he added.
