- Orban announced plans to mobilize Transcarpathian Hungarians in the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Ethnic Hungarians who live in Transcarpathia will be mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), which are being defeated at the front. This was announced on April 4 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
"Terrible destruction is taking place, which is not as dangerous for us now as it used to be, but it is still happening here, next door, in a country where Hungarians also live. And Hungarians are being drafted into the army, and the army is being defeated," he said in a morning program on the Kossuth radio station.
The Hungarian Prime minister called the danger created for the people another reason why Budapest wants to achieve an end to the conflict as soon as possible. In addition, he criticized the leaders of other European countries who are going to continue to supply military aid to Ukraine.
In particular, speaking about the Ukrainian conflict, Orban stressed that European countries oppose the peace initiatives of US President Donald Trump, and pointed out the need to strengthen Europe's defense policy.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on April 4 that strengthening the defense potential of the European Union (EU) should not lead to a hidden increase in military aid to Kiev. According to him, most of the leaders of European countries interpret the strengthening of EU weapons as a strategy to prolong the conflict in Ukraine. He also stressed that the bloc should "sit back" and support Trump's settlement initiatives.
