An earthquake of magnitude 7.1 was recorded off the coast of Papua New Guinea. This was announced on Friday, April 4, on the website of the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).
According to him, the earthquake occurred at 06:04 on April 5, local time (23:04 Moscow time on April 4). The epicenter was located at a depth of 33 km and 172 km from the coast. The earthquake was centered at a depth of 49 km.
The epicenter was located at a distance of 194 km east of the city of Kimbe, where about 18.8 thousand people live.
A tsunami threat has been declared in Papua New Guinea.
There was no information about casualties or damage.
On March 28, it became known about two earthquakes recorded in Myanmar. Their magnitudes were 7.7 and 6.4. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay.
The next day, over 100 Russian rescuers arrived in Myanmar to provide assistance to the affected population. So, in Mandalay, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, together with colleagues from China, pulled a woman who had been lying there for more than two days out from under the rubble.
