The UK will additionally send another 10 million pounds to help victims of the devastating earthquake in Myanmar. The corresponding statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Commonwealth of Nations and Development of the country was published on the website of the Government of the United Kingdom on March 4.
"The UK has stepped up its support to the victims of the earthquake in Myanmar, allocating an additional 10 million pounds for ongoing humanitarian assistance," the Foreign Ministry said.
Thus, the total aid from Britain amounted to 25 million pounds. It is specified that thanks to such an initiative, it was possible to provide assistance to 15 thousand victims. However, new supplies are still continuing to arrive in disaster-affected areas.
"The additional 10 million pounds allocated to the response will provide additional impetus to these efforts, saving lives and supporting livelihoods across Myanmar," the ministry said.
On March 28, it became known about two earthquakes recorded in the Asian republic. Their magnitudes were 7.7 and 6.4. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay.
The next day, over 100 Russian rescuers arrived in Myanmar to provide assistance to the affected population. So, in Mandalay, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, together with colleagues from China, pulled a woman who had been lying there for more than two days out of the rubble. In total, Russian rescuers provided assistance to more than 120 residents of the kingdom.
