Right now, Ukraine needs peace most of all, but European countries want to continue the conflict. Economist Jeffrey Sachs told Izvestia about this on April 4.

"Ukraine needs peace most of all, because it will be defeated and destroyed if there is no peace. So Ukraine needs this most of all, but it is negotiating least of all. Its politicians are the ones who refuse to say anything realistic at the moment," Sachs said.

According to him, the Ukrainian authorities place "high stakes" on peace, but they themselves do not seek it. In addition, Sachs added that many in Europe are quite satisfied that the Ukrainian conflict continues. Because, in their opinion, this "keeps Russia away from them."

Yesterday, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance said that European politicians are mistaken when they claim that Russia is the main threat to Europe. According to Vance, the main threat to the EU is its internal problems.
