Rescuers from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations are clearing the rubble of damaged buildings in Myanmar around the clock after the earthquake. The personnel of the specialists' work is published by Izvestia on April 3.
"During the destruction, concrete floors remain, and bricks and everything else crumbles into dust, into small stones, fills all the voids. We also have to manually sort [the rubble]," Vladimir Kovalchuk, chief of staff of the airmobile group of the Leader center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, told the publication.
According to him, specialists usually use hydraulic rescue tools to cut rebar, and jackhammers to destroy large concrete structures.
One of their local residents shared with Izvestia that her sister's room is on the first floor of a dilapidated building and, perhaps, the girl cannot get out of there. Rescuers from the Russian Federation are still looking for her.
In conditions of extreme heat and lack of wind, construction dust and confined spaces complicate work, but Russian rescuers have extensive experience in earthquake response, the Russian Emergencies Ministry's Telegram channel clarified.
Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation reported that rescuers had examined 35 facilities in Myanmar on an area of 77.5 thousand square meters in search of earthquake-affected people. It is specified that doctors of the mobile field hospital provided medical assistance to 22 wounded.
On March 28, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in the Asian republic. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay. As of April 3, the death toll reached 3,085 people.
