Rubio spoke about the future of the United States in NATO

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the country will remain in NATO and will continue to play an active role in the alliance. He announced this on April 3 during a speech to reporters in Brussels.
"At the moment, the United States is actively involved in NATO. Like never before," the politician emphasized.
He said that the world's media and some American media are staging "hysteria and hyperbolization" on the topic of relations between Washington and NATO.
Rubio noted that the United States wants NATO countries to be stronger and more independent. He added that Washington, at a meeting in Brussels, would require each country in the alliance to increase military spending to 5% of GDP.
Earlier, on March 19, NBC News reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump is exploring the possibility of relinquishing command of NATO forces in Europe.
On March 6, NBC News reported that Trump was considering changing the format of U.S. participation in NATO. It was noted that this would mean a significant departure from the basic principle of the alliance. Later, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Washington would not withdraw from the military bloc.
In January, Trump stated that he was not sure whether it was worth continuing to sponsor NATO, since the United States protects the members of the bloc, but does not receive assistance in return. He noted that he would seek to ensure that the states of the North Atlantic Alliance increased defense spending to 5% of GDP.
