The uninhabited islands of Hurd and McDonald in the Indian Ocean were subjected to trade duties imposed by US President Donald Trump. The corresponding list of countries was published on March 2 by the White House on the social network X (Ex. Twitter).

The islands belong to the outer territories of Australia. They have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1997.

After signing the decree, Trump disclosed the amount of duties against a number of countries. At the same time, in response to the 67% duty from China, the United States will impose a 34% tariff.

On March 26, President Trump announced the introduction of 25 percent duties in the United States on all cars and trucks manufactured outside the country. He clarified that these measures will come into force on April 2 and will be added to the existing ones. The White House estimates that approximately $100 billion in annual duties will be collected.
