Brazil accused the United States of violating its WTO obligations due to new duties

US President Donald Trump's new tariffs violate the country's commitment to the World Trade Organization (WTO). This was announced by the Brazilian government on Wednesday, April 2.
"The new measure, like the tariffs already imposed on the steel, aluminum, and automotive sectors, violates the United States' obligations to the World Trade Organization and will affect all Brazilian exports of goods to the United States," the government said in a statement posted on its official website.
According to the Brazilian authorities, the unilateral imposition of additional duties under the pretext of restoring the balance does not reflect reality.
It is noted that the government will consult with the private sector to protect the interests of national producers.
At the same time, they added that the country remains open to a dialogue with the United States on the issue of duties.
Earlier in the day, the American leader announced a list of reciprocal duties for a number of countries. It includes Brazil (10%), the European Union (25%), China (34%) and many other countries.
On March 26, President Trump announced the introduction of 25 percent duties in the United States on all cars and trucks manufactured outside the country. He clarified that these measures will come into force on April 2 and will be added to the existing ones. The White House estimates that approximately $100 billion in annual duties will be collected.
