The European Union (EU) is preparing a package of emergency measures to support the sectors of the economy that could be most affected by the imposition of tariffs by US President Donald Trump. This was announced on Wednesday, April 2, according to Bloomberg.

"The European Commission is working on short—term proposals for economic support that will accompany plans to promote reforms and increase competitiveness in key sectors, as well as to improve the functioning of the bloc's single market," the publication says.

The EU, in response to Trump's threats, declares that its VAT is a fair, non-discriminatory tax that applies equally to domestic and imported goods.

Earlier that day, Trump signed a decree imposing 25% import duties from April 3 on finished cars, and on auto parts no later than May 3. Trump justified this measure by the need to protect "national security."

On March 26, US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of 25% duties in the United States on all cars and trucks manufactured outside the country. He clarified that these measures will come into force on April 2 and will be added to the existing ones. The White House estimates that approximately $100 billion in annual duties will be collected.
