Israel has seized additional territory in the Gaza Strip, as well as increased pressure on the radical Palestinian movement Hamas. This was announced on April 2 by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"The IDF (Israel Defense Forces. — Ed.) seizes territories, strikes at terrorists, destroys infrastructure," he said in a video message posted on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

The Prime Minister stressed that the Israeli side is taking control of the Morag axis, which connects the cities of Rafah and Khan Yunis. According to him, it will become an additional corridor for the IDF, similar to the Philadelphia one.

Netanyahu noted that the Israeli military is trying to force Hamas to release the hostages by dividing the Gaza Strip. He clarified that the pressure will grow until the Palestinian movement returns the detained citizens.

In an interview with Izvestia on April 2, Stanislav Tarasov, an expert on the problems of the Middle East and the Caucasus, called the expansion of Israel's operations in the Gaza Strip another escalation spurt. According to him, by refusing to fulfill the second stage of the agreement with Hamas, Israel has effectively disrupted the entire peace process.

The IDF resumed military operations against the Palestinian movement in Gaza on March 18. The press service of the Gaza Ministry of Health reported on March 28 that since then, more than 890 people have been killed and more than 1,980 injured in renewed attacks on the Palestinian enclave.
