An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 was recorded in Iceland. This was announced on April 1 on the website of the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).

According to him, the earthquake occurred at 16:54 local time (19:54 Moscow time). The epicenter was located 26 km southwest of Reykjavik, where 118 thousand people live. The hearth was located at a depth of 10 km.

There was no information about casualties or damage.

Earlier in the day, a 5.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded 16 km from the city of Mandalay in Myanmar. On March 28, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in the Asian republic. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay. The death toll is more than 2.7 thousand people.

On April 1, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the largest group of rescuers had been formed to help the people of Myanmar affected by the devastating earthquake. Currently, 264 employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are working in the country. An airmobile hospital of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has been opened, which is designed for 50 inpatient patients and up to 200 outpatient patients per day.
