US President Donald Trump has decided to postpone the announcement of new duties until April 2. This was announced on April 1 by White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt.

"The announcement of the duties will be made tomorrow. They will take effect immediately. As you know, the president has been talking about this for quite a long time. He talked a lot about April 2 being Liberation Day in America. This would have happened today if it hadn't been for April Fools' Day," Leavitt said at a briefing.

According to her, foreign companies will be able to avoid new duties if they decide to do business in the United States and move their production to the country.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that Canada would take retaliatory measures against the United States if new duties were imposed on Canadian products from April 2. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney added that representatives of Washington and Ottawa are in close contact on issues of bilateral relations.
