Canada will take retaliatory measures against the United States in the event of the introduction of new duties on Canadian products from April 2. This was stated by Prime Minister Mark Carney.

He recalled that he had very productive talks with the American leader Donald Trump last week.

"I told President [Trump] and made it clear that we will respond to additional measures [by the United States]. So we will introduce retaliatory measures if there are additional decisions against Canada tomorrow," Carney said at a press conference in Winnipeg, which was broadcast on his page on the social network X.

The prime minister added that representatives of Washington and Ottawa are in close contact on issues of bilateral relations.

Earlier, on March 27, Carney said that Canada intends to reduce its economic dependence on the United States due to Trump's policies. He stressed that Washington can no longer be considered a reliable partner of Ottawa, and added that the Canadian government would reject any attempts to weaken the country.
