An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 was recorded 16 km from the city of Mandalay in Myanmar. This was announced on April 1 on the website of the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).
It is specified that the earthquake occurred at 17:31 local time (14:01 Moscow time) 16 km northwest of Mandalay, which has a population of more than 1.2 million people. The earthquake was located at a depth of 10 km.
There were no reports of casualties or damage.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the largest group of rescuers had been formed to help the people of Myanmar affected by the devastating earthquake. Currently, 264 employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are working in the country. An airmobile hospital of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has been opened, which is designed for 50 inpatient patients and up to 200 outpatient patients per day.
On March 28, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in the Asian republic. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay. The death toll is more than 2.7 thousand people.
The next day, more than 100 Russian rescuers arrived in Myanmar to provide assistance to the affected population. So in Mandalay, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, together with colleagues from China, pulled a woman who had been lying there for more than two days out of the rubble.
