Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus have begun to provide assistance to the population in Myanmar

The ZUBR special forces unit of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus has started work in Myanmar. This was announced on April 1 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

"We were in a hurry to help our colleagues from Russia and, by the decision of the head of state, to provide assistance to the Republic of Myanmar," said Igor Zarembo, head of the special forces unit of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus.

He stressed that the first rescue team has now arrived in Myanmar. It consisted of 33 people on two units of special equipment. A second team with a similar composition is expected to arrive.

Earlier on April 1, it became known that the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations had formed the largest group of rescuers to help the people of Myanmar affected by the devastating earthquake. Currently, 264 employees of the department are working in the country.

On March 28, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in the Asian republic. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay. The death toll is more than 2.7 thousand people.
