Myanmar's Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing has declared national mourning in the country in connection with the aftermath of the earthquakes. This was stated on March 31 in a statement by the prime minister, which is available to RIA Novosti.
"Out of sympathy for the loss of life and damage, from March 31 to April 6, seven days have been declared days of mourning at the national level. The national flag should be lowered at half—mast these days," the statement said.
On March 28, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in Myanmar. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay. As of March 30, the death toll in Myanmar reached 1.7 thousand people, more than 3.4 thousand were injured, and 300 are missing.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation reported on March 29 that more than 100 Russian rescuers arrived in Myanmar to provide medical assistance to the affected population. In the city of Mandalay, Russian rescuers together with colleagues from China on March 31 pulled a woman who had been lying there for more than two days out of the rubble.
