More than 120 rescuers from the main group of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations went to the city of Mandalay to help dismantle the rubble, search for victims and provide assistance to the population. This was announced on March 31 by the press service of the department.
Specialists from the Centrospas airmobile detachment of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Leader Center for Special Risk Rescue Operations are taking part in the rescue operation. They are heading to Mandalay, the city most affected by the earthquake in Myanmar.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation recalled that earlier an advanced group of 30 rescuers was sent to this city, which included dog handlers and operators of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The ministry clarified that the specialists involved conducted reconnaissance and reconnaissance in the affected village to determine the scope of upcoming work, and also began emergency rescue operations in the most difficult areas.
On March 28, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in Myanmar. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay. The death toll in Myanmar has reached 1.7 thousand people, more than 3.4 thousand were injured, and 300 are missing. In Bangkok, the number of earthquake victims has increased to 18.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported on March 29 that more than 100 Russian rescuers arrived in Myanmar to provide medical assistance to the affected population. In the city of Mandalay, Russian rescuers together with colleagues from China on March 31 pulled a woman who had been lying there for more than two days out of the rubble.
