The death toll from a powerful earthquake in Myanmar has reached 1,700 people. This was announced on March 30 by CGTN TV channel on its page in the social network X (former. Twitter).

According to the resource, more than 3.4 thousand people were injured, and another 300 are missing.

On March 29, it became known that underground oil pipelines and power lines were damaged as a result of the earthquake. Highways were also destroyed.

Alexander Ostrovsky, Chairman of the Russian Society for Friendship and Cooperation with the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, stressed that the recent earthquakes in Myanmar were the largest in the last 100 years.

On March 28, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in Myanmar. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay, and the second was 19 km south of the city of Sagaing.
