The number of earthquake victims in the Thai capital Bangkok has increased to 17 people. This was reported on March 30 by the Khaosod newspaper with reference to the Bangkok Emergency Medical Center (Erawan Center).

According to the institution, 32 people were injured in the earthquake, 83 were missing.

It is specified that the lives of 10 of the victims were claimed by the collapse of the 30-storey building of the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) under construction, and one of them died in hospital. In addition, it was there that the most people were injured — 18.

The Erawan Center stressed that the search and rescue operation is ongoing and the data will be updated.

The Chinese Xinhua news agency reported on March 29 that the death toll from the earthquake in Myanmar, where the epicenter of the disaster was located, had increased to 1,644 people. In addition, 3,408 residents of the country were injured, and 139 were missing.

On the same day, it was reported that the earthquake damaged underground oil pipelines and power lines. Highways were also destroyed. Alexander Ostrovsky, deputy chairman of the Russian Society for Friendship and Cooperation with the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, told Izvestia that this earthquake was the largest in the country in the last 100 years.

On March 28, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in Myanmar. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay, and the second was 19 km south of the city of Sagaing.
