Rescuers of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations have begun work to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake in Myanmar. This was announced on March 30 in the press service of the department.

"A joint meeting of representatives of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and the government leadership was held in Naypyidaw. It was decided to transfer a combined detachment of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations to the most affected area of the country, Mandalay Province," the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations wrote on its Telegram channel.

It is noted that an advanced group of 20 rescuers has been sent there by a small aircraft, specialists will orient themselves on the spot and will be the first to begin search and rescue operations. In addition, another group of 10 specialists moved to the site to assess the infrastructure.

"The Russian Emergencies Ministry detachment became part of the international operational headquarters, which was formed in accordance with the UN Charter at Naypyidaw Airport to coordinate the actions of international rescue teams," the publication said.

Earlier, on March 29, it was reported that more than 100 Russian rescuers arrived in Myanmar to provide medical assistance to the population affected by the earthquake.

On the same day, Myanmar authorities reported damage to oil pipelines and power lines due to the earthquake. Alexander Ostrovsky, Deputy Chairman of the Society for Friendship and Cooperation with the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, told Izvestia about the consequences of the earthquakes. According to him, highways were seriously damaged.

The Xinhua news agency reported that as a result of the earthquake in Myanmar, the death toll reached 1,644 people. According to the resource, 3408 people were injured, 139 more are missing.

On March 28, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in Myanmar. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay, and the second was 19 km south of the city of Sagaing.
