The captain of the Sinbad bathyscaphe, which crashed off the coast of the Hurghada resort in Egypt, said that he was the last to leave the boat, having previously provided assistance to many passengers. This was reported on March 29 by the newspaper Al-Masry al-Youm.

"I was the last person to leave the bathyscaphe after it sank, and visibility was zero," he said, noting that water entered the vessel before it had time to move away from the platform.

The captain's lawyer stated that his client had repeatedly asked the owners to conduct a technical inspection of the vessel, but the company ignored these requests, the material says.

The crash of a bathyscaphe with Russians on board off the coast of Hurghada became known on March 27. There were 45 Russian citizens on board, six of whom, including two children, died. The company that organized the tour, Sharm Hurghada Excursions, told Izvestia that the bathyscaphe had been in operation for about 10 years.

A source from Izvestia reported on March 28 that two Russian women, including one child, are in hospital after the crash of a bathyscaphe. A little girl is connected to a ventilator. Russian doctors are in touch with the child's doctor. The Russian Consulate General in Hurghada announced the beginning of the process of repatriating the bodies of Russians.
