Yale and Harvard universities are forced to lay off employees amid growing pressure from the administration of US President Donald Trump. This was reported by Bloomberg on March 29.

According to the newspaper, higher education institutions are forced to say goodbye to employees because of the authorities' demands to combat anti-Semitism. Otherwise, they are threatened with being deprived of federal funding.

"At Harvard, the heads of the faculty of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Professor of Turkish Studies Cemal Kafadar and Professor of History Rosie Bshir, have been forced to resign their posts. The center has been criticized for programs that have been called anti—Semitic," the article says.

Also earlier, the Harvard School of Public Health suspended its partnership with Birzeit University in the West Bank.

The US federal government has threatened to cut off funding for American universities after Trump's team accused higher education institutions of "encouraging anti-Semitism and harboring foreign students who supported the Palestinian group Hamas."

Earlier on March 29, it became known that the remaining employees of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) would be laid off in July and September. According to Reuters, the Trump administration has informed Congress that it will cut almost all remaining jobs at USAID, as well as close the agency.
