Belarus to send a detachment of the Ministry of Emergency Situations to Myanmar to provide assistance

Belarus has received a request from the Myanmar authorities for assistance in dealing with the earthquake. The special squad of the Ministry of Emergency Situations plans to take off on Saturday evening. This was announced on March 29 by the press service of the Belarusian Ministry.

"On behalf of the head of state, the republican ZUBR special forces unit of the Ministry of Emergency Situations is preparing to leave for Myanmar to assist in emergency search and rescue and other urgent work," the message published on the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Emergency Situations says.

It is specified that a total of 66 rescuers, four search dogs and four pieces of equipment with specialized equipment will go to the destination.

On the same day, more than 100 Russian rescuers arrived in Myanmar to provide medical assistance to the earthquake-affected population. It was clarified that two planes of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations landed at the Yangon airport to assist in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.

Myanmar authorities also reported damage to oil pipelines and power lines due to the earthquake. Alexander Ostrovsky, Deputy Chairman of the Society for Friendship and Cooperation with the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, told Izvestia about the consequences of the earthquakes. According to him, highways were seriously damaged.

The earthquake in Myanmar killed more than 1.6 thousand people. Another 3.4 thousand were injured. A state of emergency has been declared in the country in connection with the incident.

On March 28, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in Myanmar. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay, and the second was 19 km south of the city of Sagaing.
