More than 100 Russian rescuers arrived in Myanmar to provide assistance


More than 100 Russian rescuers have arrived in Myanmar to provide medical assistance to the earthquake-affected population. This was announced on March 29 in the press service of the department.
It is specified that two planes of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations landed at the Yangon airport to assist in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. The consolidated detachment of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations included 120 rescuers from the Centrospas airmobile detachment of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Leader Center for Special Risk Rescue Operations. The group also includes dog training teams, anesthesiologists and psychologists from the Russian emergency department.
In addition, a team from the Federal Center for Disaster Medicine of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (FCMC) flew together with medics from the state central airmobile rescue unit Centrospas of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations to Myanmar to provide medical care to the population and support the local healthcare system.
"The medical team consisted of 10 specialists of various profiles, including surgeons, traumatologists, infectious diseases specialists and anesthesiologists-intensive care specialists. The team is led by Alexey Osipov, Director of the Federal Medical Center, and Andrey Kolodkin, Deputy Director for Medical Affairs. The doctors of the Russian Ministry of Health will work together with specialists from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the ministry added," reads the Telegram channel of the Federal Medical Center of the Russian Ministry of Health.
On the same day, the Myanmar authorities reported damage to oil pipelines and power lines due to the earthquake. Alexander Ostrovsky, Deputy Chairman of the Society for Friendship and Cooperation with the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, told Izvestia about the consequences of the earthquakes. According to him, highways were seriously damaged.
In addition, the AFP news agency reported that more than 1,000 people died as a result of the earthquake in Myanmar. Another 2.4 thousand were injured. A state of emergency has been declared in the country in connection with the incident.
On March 28, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in Myanmar. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay, and the second was 19 km south of the city of Sagaing.
