Myanmar authorities reported damage to oil pipelines and power lines due to the earthquake

In Myanmar, the earthquake damaged underground oil pipelines and power lines, tankers and foreign ships are used to fill the fuel shortage. This was reported on March 29 by RIA Novosti with reference to the local authorities of the republic.

"Due to the strong earthquake that occurred on March 28, 2025, the buildings of some gas stations were destroyed. We confirm damage to underground oil pipelines connected to oil pumps, including underground oil storage tanks," the authorities said in a statement.

Alexander Ostrovsky, Deputy Chairman of the Society for Friendship and Cooperation with the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, told Izvestia about the consequences of the earthquakes. According to him, highways were seriously damaged.

"Asphalt breaks every 300-500 m. Such that it is impossible to pass. On the way, we met the unfortunate driver, who was walking in disbelief around his car, which was lifted onto a ridge of swollen asphalt and hung in the air," he said.

Earlier on March 29, the AFP news agency reported that more than 1,000 people died as a result of the earthquake in Myanmar. Another 2.4 thousand were injured. A state of emergency has been declared in the country in connection with the incident.

On March 28, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in Myanmar. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay, and the second was 19 km south of the city of Sagaing.
