Russia, despite the zone of risky farming, consistently holds the leadership in wheat exports. This opinion was shared by Mikhail Belyaev, Candidate of Economics and financial analyst, in an interview with Izvestia on March 28.

Earlier, on March 27, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Andrey Razin said during a round table in the Federation Council that by the end of 2024, Russia ranked first in the world in exports of wheat, barley, sunflower oil and frozen fish in monetary terms, TASS reported.

"We have many regions with different climatic conditions. If unfavorable weather conditions develop in one of them, this is compensated by successful work in the others," Belyaev explained.

According to him, the country's grain harvest remains stable. In Russia, 100 to 120 million tons of grain are harvested annually, while domestic consumption is about 80 million tons, which makes it possible to confidently enter foreign markets.

The expert noted that Egypt, Iran, China, as well as African countries are among the main buyers of Russian wheat.

"Russia is one of the largest producers of fertilizers, but the main thing is their proper use. Our scientists develop effective programs, and agricultural producers follow their recommendations. This gives a tangible result. The first place in the world in wheat exports is not a sporting achievement, but an indicator of stability and economic benefits," Belyaev summed up.

On January 23, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that the Russian government would additionally allocate 42 billion rubles to support soft loans for the Russian agro-industrial complex. The Head of government noted that over the past five years, the grain harvest in the Russian Federation has exceeded 120 million tons every year, and the decision to support the industry was made in order to maintain this growth rate.

On December 5, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin drew attention to the fact that the country remains the world's top wheat exporter. At the same time, since the time of the late USSR, the Russian agro-industrial complex has significantly strengthened: for example, in 1988, the Soviet Union purchased more than 35 million tons of grain for itself, and in 2023 Russia supplied 66 million tons of such products to other states.
