Experts named the loneliest generation of Russians

Among the Russians surveyed, 43% of zoomers feel lonely every day. This is stated in the results of a survey conducted by the Litnet literary platform and the Mamba dating app, reviewed by Izvestia. The International Day of Loneliness is celebrated annually on March 26.
Experts interviewed representatives of four generations: boomers (born from 1946 to 1964), generation X (from 1964 to 1980), millennials (from 1981 to 1996), and zoomers (from 1996 to 2012).
The loneliest were the zoomers. Among them, 43% of respondents feel lonely every day. 18% of the youngest generation feel this way several times a week, and 15% feel this way several times a month, rarely 15%. Only 8% never experience such feelings.
Millennials are in second place. Among them, 40% of the survey participants feel loneliness every day, 15% several times a week, 11% several times a month, rarely 24%, never 10%.
Among generation X, 36% of respondents feel lonely every day, 15% several times a week, 8% several times a month, rarely 21%, never 15%.
Less than a third of boomers (29%) admitted that they feel lonely every day. Several times a week — 13%, several times a month — 8%, rarely - 32%, never -18%.
Experts have found that the older the generation, the less lonely it is. The experience and the ability to stay alone with yourself helps not to experience such feelings.
"It's interesting that it's the zoomers who find benefits in solitude. This was stated by 78% of the centenials surveyed. The older the generation, the less benefit its representatives see for themselves.: 70% of millennials, 66% of X—men and 65% of boomers believe that being alone is beneficial for them," the survey results say.
At the same time, 71% of Generation X representatives confidently replied that they were not afraid to be alone with themselves and their thoughts. There are 68% of such boomers, 63% of millennials, and 48% of zoomers.
All generations escape from loneliness in the same way. The most popular medium, according to representatives of all generations, is movies and TV series. Hobbies and socializing with friends and family also help.
"The older generation, baby boomers, has become the most virtually active. 24% of boomers, 21% of X-men, 20% of millennials and only 14% of zoomers meet new people online during periods of loneliness. Representatives of the older generation also became the most physically active. 24% of boomers, 21% of millennials, 19% of X—men and only 13% of centenials go for a walk to relax," the experts added.
Earlier, on December 17, 2024, it was reported that in 2025, the majority of Russians are determined to change their personal lives for the better, and are ready to find a partner. Relationships have become a priority for 65% of women and 58% of men, according to the results of a study by the dating service Mamba.
