The US Secretary of Commerce Lutnik announced the sale of thousands of "golden visas" in a day

In just one day, the US authorities sold thousands of so-called "golden visas" that allow foreign citizens to become permanent residents of the United States, said the country's Commerce Minister Howard Lutnik.

"Yesterday I sold a thousand [gold visas] <...> There are 37 million people in the world who can buy a (gold) card, if you're interested," Lutnik said.

The US Secretary of Commerce added that President Donald Trump believes that the authorities can sell a million such visas. Thus, the government plans to reduce the budget deficit.

"Those who wish will pay $5 million in order to get the right to be Americans," Lutnik said.
