Portuguese President Souza signs decree dissolving Parliament

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Souza has dissolved the Assembly of the Republic (unicameral legislature). The relevant decision was announced on March 20 on the website of the head of state.
"The President of the Republic <...> signed a decree on the dissolution of the Assembly of the Republic and the appointment of legislative elections for May 18," his press service said in a statement.
The new elections will be the third in Portugal in the last three years. The president had to dissolve parliament after deputies expressed no confidence in the government of Prime Minister Luis Montenegro on March 11 amid the political crisis that has been going on in the country since February.
Then the local media published information about the Spinumviva company, owned by the Montenegro family. The business was founded when he was not yet actively involved in politics. The newspapers claimed that the company had received payments from companies where the Prime Minister had worked in the past.
The head of the French National Unification party, Jordan Bardella, said on January 27 that the dissolution of the French parliament was inevitable. According to him, "no one in the country is satisfied" with the consensus reached by French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou between Socialists and Republicans.
