Germany and France are fully involved in the conflict and will continue to support Ukraine. On Tuesday, March 18, Austrian geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel told Izvestia.

"As for Germany and France, we need to be very careful here. Of course, they are also trying to play their role <...> It is getting to the point where they want to send troops there — advisers, instructors, to train Ukrainians in the West <...> It is very important to understand," said Poppel.

The analyst stressed that the statements of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the actions that are being taken are also very dangerous for European security policy.

"The French and Germans have their own ideologies and their own motives. But the British do it on principle. Because they still believe that they play some important geopolitical role," the political scientist said.

In his opinion, the biggest danger now is Britain's influence on the situation in Ukraine. Because they still "think in terms of the British Empire" and live in "their fantasies of world domination."

Earlier in the day, French President Emmanuel Macron, at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, said that only "comprehensive peaceful solutions" could lead to lasting peace in Ukraine. He stressed that negotiations are unthinkable without Ukrainians at the table.

On the same day, Macron announced that a Rafale with nuclear warheads would be deployed at the Luxeuil-saint-Sauveur airbase, located on the border with Germany in Luxeuil-en-Ben by 2035. He also clarified that it is planned to double the base's contingent by the deadline. Thus, the number of military personnel will reach 2 thousand people.
