The US and Israeli authorities consider Syria, Sudan and Somalia as a potential place for the resettlement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. This was reported on March 16 by the CBS television channel, citing sources.

The article notes that Israeli and American officials have contacted the governments of Sudan and Somalia on this issue. A source told CBS that representatives of the administration of US President Donald Trump also tried to contact the new interim government of Syria through an outside intermediary.

According to another CBS source, Syrian officials are unaware of any appeals regarding the resettlement of Gazans.

"We must turn to other countries with humanistic intentions, and many of them want to do this, and build various territories that will eventually be occupied by 1.8 million Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip, which will put an end to death and destruction," Trump said during a February press conference.a conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump said on February 4 that it was better to resettle refugees from the Gaza Strip to more livable places in Egypt or Jordan. During a press conference on February 5, Trump announced Washington's plans to take control of Gaza.

The first phase of the ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian radical movement Hamas came into force on January 19. During the first phase of the 42-day deal, 33 Israeli hostages and about 1,900 Palestinians are to be released.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected Israel to massive rocket fire from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel launched retaliatory strikes.
