- The Italian government has announced its refusal to participate in the military mission in Ukraine.

The Italian authorities rule out the country's participation in a possible military mission in Ukraine after the end of the conflict, the Italian government's press service said in a statement on March 15.
It is noted that this decision is confirmed by Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni.
"The Prime Minister confirmed that Italy intends to continue working with European partners, as well as with the United States, to identify reliable and effective security guarantees [for Ukraine]. She repeated that the country's participation in a possible military mission on earth is not envisaged," the government's website says.
On the same day, Meloni took part in a videoconference of Western leaders on the Ukrainian conflict. The virtual summit was convened by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
On the same day, Gianluca Di Feo, a columnist for the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, wrote that the invasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) The invasion of the Kursk region was a military mistake, as well as a very risky political adventure. He noted that the Ukrainian authorities wanted to use the attack on the region as one of the cards in negotiations on a possible exchange of territories, but their move was advantageous for Moscow.
Meanwhile, on March 7, Meloni proposed extending NATO's fifth article on collective defense to Ukraine without its participation in unification. According to the Italian prime minister, such an option would be "a guarantee of stable, long-term and effective security." Pavel Feldman, Candidate of Political Sciences, professor at the Academy of Labor and Social Relations, told Izvestia that the Prime Minister's words are an absurd attempt by Rome to divert media attention to itself.
