Specialists of the Department of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery of the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital (RDKB) The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has successfully completed a multi-stage surgical treatment of a 16-year-old girl with a rare scalp formation, and also prevented its degeneration into a malignant tumor. This was reported on March 11 in the press service of the medical institution.

It is noted that the girl from the Volgograd region had a neoplasm from birth, and attempts at laser correction and cryodestruction did not bring results. After consulting with the RDCB in 2024, she was hospitalized in the federal center for specialized treatment.

As a result of diagnostic studies and medical history, the doctors diagnosed a nevus of the sebaceous glands of Jadassohn. Daler Khodjaev, a pediatric surgeon at the Department of Reconstructive and Reconstructive Surgery at the RCB, clarified that this is a benign formation that occurs due to impaired tissue development.

"In this case, the formation had a complex structure: many depressions where bacteria easily multiplied, as well as loose, unyielding edges, which significantly complicated treatment," he added.

Despite the fact that the formation is benign, malignant tumors can develop on its background. To remove the nevus, the tactics of expander dermatotension were chosen. It is a two-step procedure that allows you to stretch healthy skin and close the defect after removing the formation.

"We installed an endoexpander under a healthy area of the skin, which was eventually pumped with saline solution, stretching the healthy skin. When the flap area reached the required size, we started the second stage of surgical treatment — excision of the nevus. Surgical intervention was difficult due to the heterogeneous structure of the formation and its uneven edges, but thanks to the experience of our team in conducting such operations, we were able to successfully remove the entire volume of the nevus," Khodjaev added.

After removal, the doctors removed the expander and covered the area of intervention with a healthy skin. It is noted that the teenager had no complications during the postoperative period. In addition, a histological examination clarified the diagnosis — papillary syringocystoadenoma developed against the background of a nevus of the sebaceous glands, which is also benign.

Currently, the girl is being monitored by RDC specialists to control her condition and reduce the risk of relapse.

On February 19, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Health announced the successful removal by specialists of a rare neoplasm from the eye socket of a 12-year-old girl. It was noted that the tumor grew rapidly and threatened the child with vision loss, but timely surgical intervention avoided serious consequences.
