Charles de Gaulle's grandson has declared Europe's desire to continue the conflict in Ukraine

Europe supports the continuation of the Ukrainian conflict, opposing peace agreements. The grandson of former French President General Charles de Gaulle, Pierre de Gaulle, told Izvestia on March 10.

"The Europeans have ruined everything by opposing the peace agreements. It seems that they are the ones who want the conflict to continue, whereas peace is needed now. It seems that they are swimming against the current," he said.

Pierre de Gaulle stressed that by defending such a position, European countries are losing their "natural and legitimate place" at the negotiating table. However, according to him, the dialogue between Russia and the United States will still be successful.

"I think that the negotiations between Russia and the United States will be successful, because, fortunately, there is a desire for peace, for an end to the massacre and confrontation. There is also an understanding of reality," he clarified.

In addition, as Pierre de Gaulle added, the goal of the administration of former American leader Joe Biden was to weaken Europe and prevent its alliance with Russia, rather than real assistance to Ukraine.

"Due to political choice and ambiguity, they did not want to give Ukraine an advantage in the form of massive supplies of modern weapons and supplied outdated weapons. It was enough to keep going, but not enough to win. Thus, they continued bidding, unfortunately, to the detriment of Ukrainians," he explained.

At the same time, he noted that the administration of US President Donald Trump, in turn, has a "sincere desire" to establish peace and organize fair elections in Ukraine.
