More than 130 civilians were killed during the fighting in Syria. Rudaw reported this on March 8.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 134 civilians were killed during a large-scale operation in western Syria.

"134 civilians, including at least 13 women and five children, were killed by security forces in the areas of Banias, Latakia and Jableh," observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said.

He also added that security forces stormed houses and executed civilians, especially intensively in the town of Banias.

"Thus, the death toll since the start of the bloody clashes on Thursday has reached 229 people," the portal concluded.

On March 7, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed concern about the sharp escalation of the situation in Syria. She stressed that information is being received about large-scale clashes in the provinces of Latakia and Tartus involving Syrian security forces and armed groups calling themselves the local resistance.
